Four Myths Related to Electric Tankless Water Heaters

There are several myths in regards to electric tankless water heaters that consumers need to be aware of.

Myth #1 Electric tankless water heaters provide instant hot water.

Electric tankless water heaters provide endless hot water. It will still take the same amount of time to get water to the fixture. There is still the same amount of distance. The benefit is that the hot water is endless when it gets to the fixture. For instant hot water, a recirculating pump is required. This can be discussed during a consultation with Atlantic Plumbing Services.

Myth #2 Tankless water heaters do not need to be maintained.

Tankless water heaters need to be flushed on an annual basis. They are taking in sediment and hard minerals. If you are going to invest in a water heater it needs to be maintained at least annually to maintain the warranty, or a soft water system installed.

Myth #3 Tankless water heaters are easy to install.

Tankless water heaters should always be installed by a licensed professional. Licensed plumbers understand the local plumbing codes as well as the product specifications. Tankless water heaters must be installed with a flush valve and sometimes a sediment filter. If installed improperly a manufacturer may void the warranty.

Myth #4 Tankless water heaters reduce the amount of hot water you can use.

When shopping for a tankless hot water heater, many consumers focus on price tag when they need to focus on gallons per minute (GPM.) Some tankless water heaters are as small as 2.5 gallons per minute but go up to 7.5 gallons per minute. Atlantic Plumbing Services can provide an analysis to make sure the unit you are purchasing can keep up with the fixture needs in your home.
