Plumbing Services in Mt. Pleasant, SC Answers Your Top Plumbing Questions

Below are the most common plumbing questions individuals ask on google. As your licensed and insured plumber of choice, Atlantic Plumbing Services will walk you through common plumbing issues.

Why does my toilet keep running?

It could be the fill valve, flush valve or your flapper could have an issue.

I have no water in my house. What is happening?

The line could be frozen, or the city could have turned it off. There possibly could be a fire in the neighborhood, if they are drawing out a lot of water through a hydrant they may be drawing out your pressure.

Look at your water meter, is it turned on? Is there a fire in a neighborhood? To prevent damage be sure to turn off your water heater if you do not have water.

What do I do if my water heater is leaking?

First, make sure it is your water heater leaking and not a supply up top.

There may be a valve on top of the water heater that you can turn 90 degrees. If that doesn't work go to your valve or meter box and turn the water off there, then depending on if it is a gas heater turn the gas valve off, if it is electric be sure to turn the electricity off at the breaker.

Next, go to the bathtub and open the hot side only to release the pressure. Once you get the pressure off, turn it all off and contact your plumber.

Where is my emergency shut-off valve located?

There may be one out by the water meter and one by the house by the valve box. Knowing where to shut off your water is incredibly important.

If you have a basement, there is likely a shut-off valve down there.

Knowing how to turn off your water quickly is important and can save you thousands of dollars in damage. Make sure everyone in your household knows how to turn the water off.

My garbage disposal stopped working, what do I do?

This could be caused by a number of factors. It could be from a jam, could be a breaker issue, or it may need to be completely replaced. Always check your breaker first.

Next, under your garbage disposal should be a red button to reset it. Try to reset the disposal to get it working again.

If you hear a humming sound it is likely jammed. Be sure to use caution and make sure everything is turned off before removing a jammed article.

If it is leaking, the insides may be rusted, and the system may need to be replaced.

Why is my water cloudy?

If cloudy water is coming out of your hot water, it may be time to flush your hot water heater. However, if it is coming out of both your hot and cold water, there may be air in the pipes causing bubbles in the water.

If you see sediment coming out of your pipes you may want to get a whole house filtration system.
