Go Green and Save Energy with Tankless Water Heaters

Make an impact on the environment and your budget.

By removing the need to keep a large tank of water continuously heated, you save energy resources with a tankless water heater. Tankless water heaters are up to 50% more efficient and around the size of a small suitcase. Tankless options can be installed almost anywhere, including attics and crawl spaces.

Often, a household exceeds the limit of a standard water tank when utilizing a dishwasher, washing machine and shower simultaneously. Tankless water heaters offer an unlimited supply of hot water due to it being created on demand. As cold water flows through the tankless water heater unit, a gas burner or electric element heats the water, so there is no need to wait for a storage tank to fill.

Tips:

  • Have your tankless water heater installed near where the hot water will be used, such as bathroom, kitchens, laundry room, so the water doesn't need to travel far.

  • Keep in mind the flow rate is 2-5 gallons per minute. If you have a large home in which lots of hot water is used simultaneously, ask your professional plumber if installing two units side by side would be helpful, or if one heater should be installed near each appliance.

  • Proper maintenance will maximize efficiency.

  • Keep in mind that although tankless water heaters have an initial higher cost, their life expectancy is longer and they provide energy cost savings over the course of a year.

Is a tankless water heater a good option for your household or commercial project?

  • With a tankless water heater, you can expect $25 to $107 in annual savings, according to the U.S Department of Energy.

  • If your hot water use is low (less than 41 gallons per day), a tankless water heater will be 24% to 34% more efficient.

  • If your hot water usage is high (about 86 gallons per day), a tankless water heater is 8% to 14% more energy efficient.

  • Installing an on-demand unit at each hot water usage point provides an energy savings of 27% to 50%.*

For LEED designations, tankless water heaters will contribute to credits.
